Rakhine Community Leaders by Singaporean Government Got Arrested in Myanmar on the
Same Day

Singapore
government arrested and deported six Rakhine community leaders to Myanmar on different
times, but all are being arrested by Myanmar Special Branch police.
Chairman
Ko Hin Zaw was arrested by special branch police at Yangon airport at 2.30 PM on
July 11 after Singapore government deported him with Myanmar National Airline
UB 004.
On the
same day and at 10.55 PM Ko Aung Myat Kyaw, younger brother of Arakan Army
Commander General Tun Myat Naing, and Ko Tun Aye were arrested at the Yangon
airport by the special branch police after they were deported by Singaporean with
the Singapore Airline.
Similarly,
Ko Ye Kyaw Htet, information officer of Arakan Association in Singapore, was arrested
at his resident on Sanchung Road in Sanchung Ward, Yangon.
At 6.49
PM on July 11, four police men of Yay-Way police station stopped a car with Tag
Number GG/8695 by getting of prior information at 201 Mile Mark on
Yangon-Naypaytaw Highway and arrested two more deported Arakanese who were
deported from Singapore on July 10. The arrested are Ko Tin Hlaing Oo and Ma
Aye Myat Mon, voice chairwoman, along with the driver. They were handed over to
Special Branch Police force.
Some
local news outlets speculated that the association leaders would be charged
with counterfeit currency acts, counter terrorism acts, and unlawful association
acts. These young men and woman lives if found guilty are hopeless and may end
up in prisons.
Singapore
police made surprise raids and arrested these six leaders of Arakan Association
(Singapore) on July 9 and 10 in
different locations.
The arrested
leaders are Chairperson Ko Hein Zaw, Voice Chair Ma Aye Myat Mon, Information
Office Ko Ye Kyaw Htet, Ko Tin Hlaing Oo, Ko Tun Aye, and Ko Aung Myat Kyaw.
Arakan
Association is a social organization that has been established with young and
educated Arakanese men and women who have been working in Singapore since 2000
to support each other and to support social and education needs in their home
state.
Different
leaders have carried on its social supports and organizational works in
different times. The association has also been funding for education and social
needs in some parts of Rakhine State when the rural and poor communities need.
However,
Singapore government had been eyeing on the association and its leaders after
Myanmar embassy complained and pushed to halt the organization and its
activities in later date of April.
Myanmar
embassy lodged the report to the Singapore government after the association
organized an anniversary of Arakan Army formation on April 10th..
During the event, some Arakanese young men ware military uniforms while
AA chief was giving online speech. This kind of unamicable spark led the young
leaders arrested and deported.
“I am
very afraid of now they would be tortured and killed in the hands of Myanmar
police,” a fried of arrested voice chairwoman who does not want to mention her
name told our information center.
“Singapore
government would not deport her so quickly since she did not violate any law
and committed any crime in Singapore; now she gets arrested,” She cried and
said.
