May 20, 2019. Sittway

Myanmar army shot and shelled in a couple of villages, Kyuktaw Township, killed a child and wounded several other on May 19.

The soldiers shot and killed a child in Myuk Chung, Kyauk Taw township at 5.45 PM on May 19.

The shooting occurred after two sibling children came back from a temple nearby the village.

These siblings went to the temple in evening to assist the chief monk to reload phone bills and donated some refreshment drinks.

When they were coming back from the temple to the village, they heard gunfire. Then they run into the bushes. Then the soldiers randomly shot them from the back. The soldiers did not distinguish between adults and children.

A ten years old girl, Ma Athin Chay, 10, died on the spot. The bullets hit her head behind and went through the front.

Her brother, Soe Soe Aung, tried to carry her body, but he could not. Then he run back to the village alone as quickly as possible. The soldiers were shill shooting him from behind. Luckily, he did not get shots and able to reach home. Then he told his parents the kill of his sister. But parents could not pick up the body till next morning.

Myanmar army also shelled into a village and wounded a family with three children and their mother on the same day of May 19.

Then one of the shells exploded near the family’s elder bother house. The splits of the shells hit the three children and the mother.

The injured are Daw Ma Aung Htwee, 28 and mother of three injured children, Maung Naing Lin, 10, Maung Khin Lin Zaw, 8, and Maung Khin Lin Htay, 3. They are all boys.

Daw Ma Aung Htwe told our information center, she took her children and ran to her elder brother house. Then the shell landed in her brother house.

United Nations and other international governments have called Myanmar government to restrain violence and respect international humanitarian laws. But the calls are end up on the buffalo ears.

More violence is predicted in rampage in Rakhine State since both sides, the government and Arakan Army, are not backing down for their end states: one side says “crush and clear” and the other say “greater autonomy.

ASEAN should step up and mediate for peace and stability in Rakhine and in Myanmar as a whole and as parts of the ASEAN members while West and Europe ignoring the violence in Rakhine State.
